(In Aug. 2010, Hilton and then-boyfriend Cy Waits were busted at a traffic stop in Las Vegas; she pled guilty to cocaine possession, and Waits was charged with driving under the influence of marijuana.)

As reported by the Las Vegas Sun, Justice of the Peace Joe Bonaventure formally closed Hilton's case in a Las Vegas courtroom Tuesday morning.

"We ask that her informal probation be terminated honorably and the case be closed at this time," Hilton's attorney Richard Schonfeld said during Tuesday's hearing.

Deputy District Attorney Priyanka Sedlock also agreed that Hilton had met the conditions of her probation. "She has stayed out of trouble, so the state has no problem," Sedlock said.

Although her probation called for 200 hours of community service, Hilton performed 228 hours, which included painting out graffiti in L.A. and working with an animal foundation in Las Vegas.

Norman Mailer married 6 times

Norman Mailer married 6 times, Norman Mailer was married six times and had nine children. He fathered eight children by his various wives and also raised and informally adopted Norris' son from another marriage, Matthew.

Norman's first marriage was in 1944, to Beatrice Silverman, whom he divorced in 1952. They had one child, Susan.

Mailer married his second wife, Adele Morales, in 1954. They had two daughters, Danielle and Elizabeth. Mailer was violent to his wife. He punched her in the stomach when she was six months pregnant, and coerced her to have group sex with his friends. In 1960, Mailer stabbed Adele with a penknife after a party, nearly killing her. He cut through her breast, only just missing her heart. Then he stabbed her in the back. As she lay there, haemorrhaging, one man reached down to help her. He snapped: "Get away from her. Let the bitch die." He was involuntarily committed to Bellevue Hospital for 17 days; his wife would not press charges, and he later pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of assault, and was given a suspended sentence. While in the short term, Morales made a physical recovery, in 1997 she published a memoir of their marriage entitled The Last Party, which recounted the violence and its aftermath. This incident has been a focal point for feminist critics of Mailer, who point to themes of sexual violence in his work.

His third wife, whom he married in 1962, and divorced in 1963, was the British heiress and journalist Lady Jeanne Campbell (1929–2007), the only daughter of Ian Campbell, 11th Duke of Argyll and a granddaughter of the press baron Lord Beaverbrook. The couple had a daughter, Kate Mailer, who is an actress.

His fourth marriage, in 1963, was to Beverly Bentley, a former model turned actress. She was the mother of his producer son Michael Mailer and his actor son Stephen Mailer. They divorced in 1980.

His fifth wife was Carol Stevens, a jazz singer whom he married on November 7, 1980, and divorced in Haiti on November 8, 1980, thereby legitimating their daughter Maggie, born in 1971.

His sixth and last wife, whom he married in 1980, was Norris Church Mailer (née Barbara Davis, 1949–2010), an art teacher. In her autobiography A Ticket to the Circus, Norris Church recounts of a rape and a miscarriage. They had one son together, John Buffalo Mailer, a writer and actor, and Mailer informally adopted Matthew Norris, her son by her first husband, Larry Norris. Living in Brooklyn, New York and Provincetown, Massachusetts with Mailer, Church worked as a model, wrote and painted.

Tony Curtis married six times

Tony Curtis married six times, one of the last great stars of Hollywood's golden age, died yesterday aged 85. The death was confirmed by a representative of his actor daughter Jamie Lee Curtis, although further details have yet to emerge. Curtis's health had been failing for a number of years and he was admitted to hospital in July after suffering an asthma attack.

Appearing on stage at the Guardian BFI Southbank interview in 2008, Curtis was asked by an audience member what he would like to have written on his gravestone. "Nobody's perfect," he quipped, quoting the final line of his best-loved comedy, Some Like it Hot.

He was born humble Bernard Schwartz, to Hungarian immigrant parents in the Bronx and grew up dreaming of stardom and idolising the casual, easy grace of Cary Grant. Marketed as prime 1950s beefcake by Hollywood, he brought a pulchritudinous dash to a rash of substandard studio pictures before winning plaudits for his role as a venal press agent in the 1957 drama The Sweet Smell of Success. The following year he gained his only Oscar nomination for his turn opposite Sidney Poitier in the tense racial parable The Defiant Ones.

His other notable films include The Vikings, Stanley Kubrick's Spartacus and The Boston Strangler. Curtis always insisted that the latter film, in which he played serial killer Albert DeSalvo was the finest performance of his career. In later years he turned to painting, with some success, and cited Van Gogh, Picasso and Magritte as his main inspirations.

His most enduring screen role, however, remains his role as a runaway jazz musician, alongside Jack Lemmon and Marilyn Monroe, in Billy Wilder's 1959 classic Some Like it Hot. The film even provided Curtis with the chance to channel the spirit of his old idol Cary Grant - mimicking the actor's distinctive transatlantic twang to impersonate a stuffy oil millionaire. "Nobody talks like that!" retorted the disgusted Jack Lemmon.

The role was a gamble for Curtis, who spends the bulk of the film in drag, but it paid off brilliantly. "I was very nervous about getting dressed up as a girl," he would later confess. "Jack [Lemmon] had no problem with it .... We realised it was the perfect symmetry for the two of us. Let him be the flaunty one, let me be the more quiet one, which fit out characters perfectly."

Curtis married six times and appeared to revel in his reputation as a carouser. "I wouldn't be caught dead marrying a woman old enough to be my wife," he once remarked.

Frank Sinatra once claimed that Curtis was his favourite Hollywood actor, "because he beat the odds". In old age, the actor looked back delightedly on a career that had carried him from the impoverished neighbourhoods of New York to a high-life as a Hollywood superstar. "I've made 122 movies and I daresay there's a picture of mine showing somewhere in the world every day of the week," he stated proudly, providing an epitaph all of his own.

Lindsay Lohan Throws Drink

Lindsay Lohan throws drink, It was a bloodbath at the Top of the Standard in New York when a Fashion Week partygoer fell on broken glass minutes after Lindsay Lohan pitched a drink at a photographer.

A female guest at the V magazine party in the hotel’s Boom Boom Room on Wednesday night fell onto a table as Carine Roitfeld, Mario Testino, Linda Evangelista, Mary-Kate Olsen, Courtney Love, Alexander Wang, Rose McGowan and Usher partied on.

Multiple witnesses told us that the woman fell from a flight of steps near Lohan’s table. Her tumble caused glass to shatter and cut her arm.

A witness told us: “There was so much blood spurting, it was like a horror movie. The party was packed and blood was spurting onto people’s clothes. Paramedics were called, but they took more than 20 minutes to get there, and a friend held the girl’s arm to try to stop the bleeding.”

The music was turned down and the lights were turned on as staffers tended to the unidentified victim, whom we’re told is OK.

Lohan, partying with her mom, Dina caused a stir moments before by throwing a drink at a guest who tried to get a picture. Photographer Jaspin Rischen said on Twitter: “Wow. Lindsay Lohan is as trashy as they always say. She threw drinks and glasses to me as we tried to take a shot for @vmagazine. [bleep]” But a Lohan rep said, “Lindsay did not throw anything at anyone, plain and simple. Making up stories about Lindsay has become a pastime for many people.”

The school picture shows the pair of friends hanging out in a class room.

They've come a long way: The Dancing With The Stars contestant earlier this week and right, Jennifer at the Horrible Bosses premiere in June

His participation on the show is a sure sign of success after a long, difficult struggle with his sexual identity.

Born as the daughter of singers Cher and Sonny Bono, Chaz came out openly as a lesbian in 1995, and in 2008 began undergoing the social and physical transformation from female to male, which was legally completed in May 2010.

The ground-breaking star chronicled his experiences in the documentary film Becoming Chaz that premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year.
Romance on the red carpet: Jennifer Elia and Chaz have been engaged for the past two years and celebrated his recent success together at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards

The memoir movie was nominated for a creative Arts Emmy, which were held in Los Angeles on September 10, but it lost out to Ridley and Tony Scott's Gettysburg.

'It's been an honour to be nominated, Chaz told U.S. show Entertainment tonight from the red carpet.

'I did this to really try to help people and to come away with an award on top of it would be amazing.'

Bono attended the event with his beautiful girlfriend Jennifer Elia, who opened up on CNN's Piers Morgan Tonight last May about their relationship.

When asked by the Piers whether she preferred Chaz as a man or a woman, she replied: 'I find him more attractive as a man,' said Elia, who says she is a bisexual woman, said that their intimate relationship as a now 'straight couple', has improved 'for the good.'

Chaz admitted that wedding plans had been put on hold due to various issues, most notably his transition.

'We've been engaged for two years and had to put things on hold for a little bit,' he said.

A strong advocate for gay marriage, Chaz did however reveal that they would be married as man and wife.

Britney launches her European tour in London... but only Z-listers Katie Waissel and Mark Wright turn up

Britney launches her European tour in London... but only Z-listers Katie Waissel and Mark Wright turn up, Britney Spears showed off her curves in a grey bodycon dress as she celebrated the launch of her European Femme Fatale tour.

As she prepares to start her first European tour in two years, Britney Spears was hoping to kick off things with a bang.

But as she turned up to the tour's London launch party last night, she could have been forgiven for wondering just where all the genuine stars were.

The A-list singer was joined by reality stars Mark Wright and Katie Waissel at the Sanctum Soho Hotel as she marked the new leg of her Femme Fatale tour.

Nevertheless, the 29-year-old looked stunning in a green bodycon dress with sheer panels as she arrived at the Sanctum Soho Hotel with boyfriend Jason Trawick.

She kept her blonde hair back swept off her face, with smoky eye make-up to complete the look.

The pop star kept close to her boyfriend Trawick, as they mingled with celebrities and journalists at the upmarket London hotel.

The Only Way Is Essex's Wright admitted he was a bit starstruck by her presence.
Red carpet treatment: The singer arrived with long-term boyfriend Jason Trawick, who looked relaxed in khakis and a checked shirt

He tweeted: 'Is it silly that I am excited to be on the way to Britney Spears tour launch party going to be in the same room as one of the world's biggest stars?'

Also up for a party was X Factor reject Waissel and new girl group Parade.

The bash was to launch the European leg of her Femme Fatale tour, which starts in St Petersberg on September 22 and will return to London in October for dates at the O2 Arena.
Comfortable: The couple looked relaxed as they sat on a sofa waiting to talk to journalists

Spears arrived in London on Thursday morning after celebrating her sons Sean Preston and Jayden James's birthdays earlier this week.

Clearly enjoying herself, she posted a photo on her Twitter of her standing on her rooftop terrace of her Mayfair hotel.

She wrote: 'Look at this view of London... so beautiful! Love it here... Having a blast in the UK.'

As well as doing lots of promotional work, she is also preparing to film the video for new single Criminal during her five day stay in the capital.

She wrote on Twitter last week: 'So excited to stop over in the UK before I start my European tour in a few weeks. Can't wait! I LOVE London, it's like my second home.

'Decided to shoot the Criminal video in the streets of merry old England when I get there...'

The video, directed by Chris Marrs Piliero, sees Spears playing the long-suffering girlfriend of her dangerous lover, who is rescued by another man - named Jason.

The singer then flees with 'Jason' and the couple embark on a Bonnie and Clyde style-crime spree.

Chic David goes undercover as scruffy store worker and tries to sell his aftershave in TV skit

Spend it like Beckham! Chic David goes undercover as scruffy store worker and tries to sell his aftershave in TV skit,  David Beckham was almost unrecognisable in his disguise for a skit on Ellen today.

Many people think David Beckham would do almost anything to sell his after shave.

But he took it to a whole new level today after going undercover as a Target employee as an fragrance salesman.

The LA Galaxy super star donned a store uniform, baseball cap and unfashionable glasses as he tried to hawk his Homme cologne at a branch of the discount store in Hollywood.

Footballer David is famous for spraying majestic cross-field passes, but he was trying to spray customers with his scent as he tried his hardest to make a few sales.

The midfielder was just playing for laughs as part of a skit on Ellen DeGeneres's popular US talk show.

The charismatic former Manchester United star looked far from his usual hunky self in his unflattering ensemble, and no doubt his famously high-pitched voice made approaching customers even more difficult.

Ellen controlled what the footballer said and did by issuing instructions through a speaker in his hat.
No smelling sticks David? The star made women sniff the aftershave on his leg
He's at it again: But his unique selling style was not having the desired effect

He pretended he was Ricky, an Australian supermarket worker who had been tasked with selling the fragrance.

As one customer stopped to take a sniff, he told her 'actually, let me spray it on my leg. It smells so much better.'

And moments later he sparked howls of laughter from the audience when he was misspoke the phrase 'rustic scent' as 'a very rough extent' as he tried to continue his sales pitch.

He then tried to explain his accent away to locals by saying, 'I'm, from Australia,' but he was almost rumbled when a customer told him he sounded 'very English.'
'Howdy partner': Rhinestone cowboy David screamed out in a thoroughly unconvincing accent

The 115-times capped England international then tried to portray a Texan accent by screaming 'howdy partner,' at the top of his lungs but admitted beforehand he 'wasn't very good at it.'

When a lady said she liked David Beckham and that he looked like him, he replied, 'I wish I looked like him.'

When he asked if he sounded like him the eagle-eyed lady said he was him, but he tried to stop her from rumbling his ruse by denying it.

When she continued to protest he added: 'I am not David Beckham, stop spreading rumours.'
Where's Duncan Bannatyne when you need him? David could have done with some selling tips after his pitch fell flat
Evil genius: Ellen fed David lines from her comfy chair in the studio

His sales pitch was rapidly going downhill, and he even tried to serenade a woman into taking a sniff by bursting into a refrain of the Chris de Burgh classic Lady In Red, but it was unsuccessful.

David's performance was drawing him ever nearer to an early bath, especially when he again mistook the phrase 'if you stink come buy cologne,' for 'if you think come buy cologne.'

He tried to recover by turning the phrase into an impromptu football chant.

When some men finally approached him for a smell of his fragrance he almost blew it by spraying the trio in the face.
Watch out David's about: Beckham relives his favourite Jeremy Beadle memories by taking off his disguise

David was getting desperate, and he even told someone to 'stick it in your pocket, nobody is looking. It's a small box,' and even put it in the man's pockets despite his protests.

Ellen decided it was time for him to be given the red card, and ordered him to take his hat and glasses off after he was challenged again on his identity.

However there was still time for one last blunder, as instead of explaining he was appearing on the show 'switcheroo,' he said he was starring in 'chicheroo.'

No doubt the fashion conscious former England captain was relieved when he was able to put on his own clothes again when filming was finished.
Starting her young: Comedienne Ellen DeGeneres presented David with a mini LA Galaxy tracksuit for his new daughter Harper

It was a hugely different way of trying to sell a fragrance than the hunk's recent advertisement for the aftershave, which 'encapsulates the spirit of David.'

He showed off his athletic body when he posed and ran around topless topless in the advert in July.

Later on David appeared on the show, and Ellen DeGeneres soon turned the conversation to more personal matters.

And the father-of-four admitted he would love to have more children with his former Spice Girl wife Victoria.
That's the way to do it: David sells his own fragrance by baring his body

He said if they 'were lucky enough to have another one' they would be very happy about it.

The former Real Madrid star added: 'We always spoke about having a big family. We love children.

'We are very blessed to have four healthy children so if one comes along that would be amazing.'

Comedienne Ellen then asked if having seven family members would make it more special, as it is the shirt number he has worn for most of his career.

David said: 'Yes. What can say, I love the number seven.'

Ellen then gave David a pink LA Galaxy tracksuit with his number on it for baby daughter Harper, who was born in July.

Kerry Katona can't kick the cigarettes after enrolling at bootcamp

Kerry Katona can't kick the cigarettes after enrolling at bootcamp, Kerry Katona can't quit the cigarettes despite starting an exercise regime. She has enrolled herself at bootcamp in a bid to shift those excess pounds - and to keep up with her toyboy Lucien Laviscount.
But there are some bad habits Kerry Katona just cannot seem to kick.

She was spotted smoking a cigarette immediately upon leaving the ITV studios today after appearing on Loose Women.

The 31-year-old seemed desperate for her fix as she lit up the second she walked out of the door.

She was determined to lose weight ahead of her stint on Celebrity Big Brother and has become more motivated than ever since leaving the house.
Quick fix: Kerry seemed desperate for her fix as she left the ITV studios after appearing on Loose Women

But the cigarettes won't help her exercise get any easier, and certainly won't keep her looking young for Lucien.

The pair are rumoured to be dating after meeting in the Big Brother house, and have claimed that they are 'friends with benefits'.
Work it: Kerry Katona has an intensive workout at bootcamp

Lucien may be 12 years her junior at 19-years-old, but the pair hit it off in the house and proved that age is nothing but a number.

And the Atomic Kitten singer dragged her pal Danielle Brown, the sister of Spice Girl Mel B, along for the ride.

Kerry was photographed doing a series of intensive workouts which included boxing, running on the spot and running alongside other bootcamp attendees while they all carried a heavy log.
Packing a punch: Kerry Katona enlisted the help of pal Danielle Brown for boxing practice
Admitting defeat?: Danielle brown playfully collapses to the floor to show her exhaustion

The Celebrity Big Brother runner-up was put through her paces by a camouflage wearing bootcamp trainer, who achieves results through tough love and army style instruction.

But Kerry made it through the intensive workout with a smile on her face.

She was seen practising her punches with Danielle, who playfully collapsed to the floor during the exercise to show her exhaustion - while Kerry collapsed into laughter at her friend's lack of enthusiasm.
Heavy lifting: Bootcamp attendees were instructed to run while holding a heavy log
A good sport: Despite the difficult training, Kerry kept a smile on her face the entire time
The mother-of-four's weight has frequently fluctuated and seen her become something of a yo-yo dieter.

Despite undergoing a major health kick last year which saw her drop to a size eight, Kerry put the weight back on through comfort eating after splitting with her management company.

She tried a series of workouts including hiring a personal trainer and attending Zumba dance classes in the run-up to Big Brother, but now Kerry seems to have settled on notoriously intensive bootcamp.
Friends with benefits: Kerry is shaping up for Big Brother housemate Lucien Laviscount, who she is rumoured to be dating

Danielle was pictured picking her friend up from Riverside studios this week after Kerry was there to film ITV2's Celebrity Juice, and the blonde was showing off the results of her hard work in a figure-hugging dress.

Danielle, who is the spitting image of her Spice Girl sister, has been estranged from her sibling for the last three years.
The results: The girls flaunted their figures following their training at the exercise camp

Rapper T.I. Halfway House

Rapper T.I. Halfway House, The Grammy-winning artist T.I. was back at a halfway house in Atlanta on Thursday after weeks of fighting with federal prison officials who were upset he traveled with a TV producer and a manager when he was released from an Arkansas prison, his attorney said.

T.I. was initially released from the Arkansas prison and sent to the halfway house on Aug. 31, a month before his sentence for probation violation was up. But a day later he was back in federal custody after corrections authorities accused him of violating prison rules by discussing business deals with the two during his 375-mile journey to Atlanta.

Attorney Steve Sadow argued that the rapper didn't break any rules because a VH1 reality show and book deal that was announced within hours of his release had actually been finalized months earlier.

Sadow said Thursday that his client didn't intend to violate any guidelines and that he was pleased with the outcome. The Bureau of Prisons did not comment on the move.

T.I., whose real name is Clifford Harris, initially served about seven months in prison in 2009 after he was arrested for trying to buy unregistered guns and silencers from undercover federal agents. He was on probation after he was released and ordered not to commit another crime or to illegally possess any controlled substances. He then was arrested in Los Angeles in September 2010 after authorities said he was found with four ecstasy pills.

He was sentenced to 11 months in prison for that violation and had been set for release at the end of September, but he was allowed to transfer to an Atlanta halfway house about a month early. He made the trip on a luxury bus with his wife, Tameka "Tiny" Cottle Harris, manager Brian Sher and producer Cris Abrego, according to documents.

Sher and Abrego said in letters sent to Bureau of Prisons officials that they visited with T.I. a few times before his release and no business was conducted during the trip. T.I.'s business attorney, Jonathan Leonard, said in another letter that the TV deal was negotiated and signed in late July and processed through his office. The book deal with HarperCollins Publishers was sealed in June 2011, he said.

T.I. will now stay at the Atlanta halfway house through Sept. 29, when his prison term ends, said Sadow. After that, T.I. will be a free man, although he'll be on federal probation for another year.

The new face of Lindsay Lohan's sister

Ali Lohan Plastic Surgery. It was not so long ago that Ali Lohan, Lindsay Lohan’s sister, had signed a contract with NEXT Model Management and was excited to embark on her career as a model. Most of us figured it would be a few years before we’d be flipping through Vogue or Vanity Fair and spot her pulling the collar of a floor length fur coat up over her ears and making a sad face because it’s cold at the train station and there’s no one around to help her load her designer luggage aboard.

But it turns out the day of Ali Lohan appearing in full page spreads is closer than we thought because yesterday, photos surfaced that seemed to indicate Ali had had a significant amount of plastic surgery done, and the only way to explain it is to assume it was intended to increase the likelihood of her succeeding in what is possibly the most competitive industry in the world. The photo on the left was taken in 2009 when she was 15 and the photo on the right was taken in Beverly Hills earlier this week.
Admittedly, I am not a plastic surgeon so I cannot examine each and every way Ali’s facial appearance has changed and tell you what kind of procedures she may have had. However I most certainly can point out the obvious differences between the two images, and they are: enhanced cheekbones, a fuller bottom lip, fuller eyebrows, a thinner nose, a pointier chin, and a paler skin tone. I refuse to believe any one of them occurred naturally, and I bet before you know it we’ll see Dina Lohan talking to Matt Lauer about how Ali is just recovering from a bad case of mono and arguing we shouldn’t be picking on the way a 17 year old girl looks while she’s recuperating from an illness. But nonetheless, the transformation is shocking and almost makes us consider the possibility that Bristol Palin really did need to have her face slimmed down because her jaw needed correcting. Almost, you know?

Elizabeth Ward Gracen   Bill Clinton. Elizabeth Ward claim of affair with US President Bill Clinton. In 1992, rumors swirled that Gracen had an affair with Arkansas Governor Bill Clinton.

At first, Gracen dismissed this claim. In Spring 1998 Gracen recanted her six-year-old denial and stated she had a one night stand with Clinton in 1982.

After claiming this, Independent Counsel Kenneth Starr, who was investigating Clinton in the Paula Jones lawsuit, issued a subpoena to have her testify her claim in court.

Gracen avoided the subpoena due to filming Highlander: The Raven overseas.

Miss America Susan Akin Challenges

Miss America Susan Akin Challenges
Miss America Susan Akin Challenges. Signal Mountain's Susan Akin knows this better than most. She was crowned Miss America 1986 while a college student at the University of Mississippi. In those days, the crown meant something -- a dream appointment that promised a life of glamour and a difference-making platform.
For many years she had just that, traveling around the world with renowned entertainer Bob Hope, performing before thousands and delivering hopeful messages to young women. But one thing she learned along the way is that life as an adult isn't always as dreamy as being the one chosen at that magical moment when the announcer proclaims, "There she is ... "

When I was in college with Susan in the 1980s, our paths occasionally crossed. But though we had mutual friends, she was busy in one direction, while I was busy in another.

When I learned Ms. Akin lives in the Chattanooga area, I reached out to say hello. A former Miss America in our midst seemed like a story. Also, shared common ground seemed like a worthy connection. What I found, though, has both surprised and delighted me.

I knew Ms. Akin was a beautiful, spiritual and talented woman. I also knew how hard she had worked to attain her dream, the Miss America crown. She had appeared in more than 100 pageants, winning 13 before finally winning the big one. What I did not know, however, is that Miss America struggles with life as we all do, navigating triumph and difficulties.

In the years since she was crowned Miss America, Ms. Akin has experienced victories but also suffered challenges, including divorce, while facing the ever-changing learning curve to try and turn life's difficult lessons learned into a winning formula for the future. For most of us, that's life.

But one also can imagine that Miss America has an extra dose of difficulty thrown on for good measure, the ever-present challenge of living up to the crown. People have expectations -- the look, the stride and the smile. Self-expectations, even, go well beyond that, as Ms. Akin readily attests.

"I'm sorry," she said the day we reconnected. "I've been busy ... "

"Don't apologize," I told her. "You look like Miss America."

Miss America Caressa Cameron Lesbian Wear Crown

Miss America Caressa Cameron Lesbian Wear Crown
Miss America Caressa Cameron Lesbian Wear Crown. It took Caressa Cameron four tries to become Miss Virginia, but once she nailed the state title last year, it's easy to see how she went on to capture the glittery Miss America crown in Las Vegas on Jan. 30.

This was one poised, smart, candid and effervescent young woman who sat down to lunch in Washington Monday with a bunch of strangers, including several reporters and TV producers. Sure, she'd been in D.C. before, to sing the National Anthem at the Washington Nationals' season opener, where she shook hands with President Obama, and to serve as grand marshal of the Cherry Blossom Parade earlier this month.

But Monday's lunch was meant to showcase her in a far more intimate setting -- Cafe Milano's private dining room in Georgetown, and to once again remind those new to the world of Miss America and all its state and local pageants that it is not, not, not a beauty contest, because it provides $50 million a year in scholarships for women.

During the meet and greet, where surprisingly no handler hovered about monitoring her every word, Cameron, 22, answered all my questions except one: How much money she thinks she'll earn at paid appearances all over the world during her reign. "I'm not allowed to discuss it," she confided. But it is a sizable chunk of change, especially since the crown comes with an automatic $50,000 scholarship.

Cameron didn't blink, however, when I asked if she thought some day there might be a lesbian Miss America, given that so many other barriers have fallen since the first pageant was held in 1921 as an unapologetic beauty contest to lure tourists to Atlantic City in September.

Call it her reign of candor.

"I don't think someone's ethnicity, someone's religious background, even their sexual orientation has anything to do with their ability to do the job, so I would say yes. It has no bearing on whether they can go to a children's hospital and visit kids."

Cameron was also confident that the judges -- who this year included conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh -- would be willing to make such an equal-opportunity choice. "A lot of time we don't give people enough credit for being open-minded. If you are a judge doing your job, you will choose someone regardless of her political views or sexual orientation. You would hope people's prejudice would not play a role in picking someone for a job as wonderful as Miss America."

No surprise, then, that her platform issue during her Virginia pageant years -- which began at age 14 in the Junior Miss Fredericksburg contest and will continue as Miss A -- remains HIV/AIDS education and prevention for students in middle and high school. Having lost an uncle to AIDS when she was just 8, Cameron wanted a teenager's bully pulpit from which to reach kids who might not listen to adults.

No surprise either that during a public interview before her state victory last June, she declared that the separation of church and state trumped her personal religious belief that marriage should be between a man and woman. "But I don't believe we should legislate against gay marriage. One doesn't de-solidify the other."

That is what a modern Miss America, and a would-be TV anchor, sounds like.

I got my first glimpse into the parallel universe of pageantry back in 1986, when Miss A was still based on the Jersey shore (it moved to Vegas in 2006). It was from the contestants that I first heard of a profession known as "personal trainer," learned that the "girls" routinely used Preparation H hemorrhoid cream to deflate puffy eye bags, slathered Vaseline on their teeth for a shinier smile and kept their swimsuits from riding up by spraying their butts with the same stuff football players used to keep a grip on the pigskin. One contestant who failed to place in the top 10 that year revealed she'd blithely enthused to judges that "'the women of America are going to take the country by storm. There are 49 women running for office and by the year 2000 half of the people in medical, law and other professional schools will be women.' I don't think that went over to big," she said. I kept a close eye on the 1993 winner, Leanza Cornett, who broke new ground as an advocate for children with AIDS; she also broke the physical stereotype by being a petite brunette, not a statuesque blond.

Cameron, too, is a tiny and dark-haired, just 5-foot-4 and maybe a size 0. But she was also the only one at lunch who ordered two entrees, one of them a bowl of pasta. Although her family is still in Virginia, her only visit home since winning 10 weeks ago was at Easter, and she won't have another day off until Thanksgiving. She jokes that her base is "two suitcases and a carry-on bag."

Occasionally, however, her boyfriend, who coaches football and basketball at their old high school, and who gave her the dazzling crown pendant she wears -- it's made of crystals, not diamonds, she says -- will meet her for dinner if she is appearing locally. And might those evenings turn into conjugal visits?

"No, no, no, no."

Silly me. What ever was I thinking? Sex is so not part of the job.

Alex Gerrard baby shower

Alex Gerrard baby shower. WAG Alex Gerrard has lavish baby shower. The mum-to-be celebrates and compares bump with pregnant WAG pal Sheree Murphy. Pregnant Sheree Murphy was positively glowing as she turned up for Alex Gerrard’s stunning baby shower.

Sheree, 35, was among many who arrived to celebrate with Steven Gerrard’s wife, who is due in just nine weeks! With Sheree carrying a bag of goodies for the mum-to-be and wearing pretty impressive high heels, it was clearly a stylish affair.

Talking about her friend’s big do, Sheree tweeted: “Just been at a baby shower all day…had such a lovely girly day. Haven’t laughed so much in ages!”

The pals even compared bumps, with Sheree tweeting: “The mum to be only has 9 weeks till she has her baby… slightly gutted my bump (and bum) was bigger than hers!”

Alex is expecting her third with Liverpool footballer Steven Gerrard while Sheree is expecting her fourth with former Liverpool player Harry Kewell.

Justine Mills, a cricket boutique owner, was among the lucky few to attend and also came bearing a pretty hefty stack of presents for Mrs Gerrard.

Baby showers are all the rage in the US as actress Penelope Cruz and diva Mariah Carey held swanky bashes to celebrate.

Posh held a true A-lister event, celebrating her pregnancy with the likes of Demi Moore, Selma Blair and Nicole Richie. But you wouldn’t expect any less when the party’s organised by Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria.
