Will pizza vending machines hit streets of NY?
Will pizza vending machines hit streets of NY?, Dominoes promise their pizzas will be ready and at your door in 30 minutes or less. But one New York entrepreneur found a way to deliver pizza to your hand in just 90 seconds - by creating a pizza vending machine.

The automated pizzeria delivers freshly baked hot pizzas at the touch of a few buttons, and not only that, but you can watch it be cooked right in front of your very eyes - just like a real pizzeria but without the chef. pizza vending machine, pizza vending machine 8-inch round pie,

Customers have the option of white, cheese or pepperoni pizza. Once they make their selection, they can watch as the machine presses a ball of fresh dough into an eight-inch pie. Will pizza vending machines hit streets of NY?, pizza vending machine white cheese pepperoni,

The tomato sauce is then drizzled on to the pressed circle of dough and the grated cheese is distributed and spread by a plastic funnel as the pie rotates to ensure it is spread evenly.

The same funnel distributes the toppings.

The pizza takes anything from 90 seconds to three-and-a-half minutes to bake, depending how many are ordered, during which time customers can either watch the pizza-making process or can look at the 32-inch flat screen TV that blares entertainment and ads. pizza vending machine 90 seconds,

Once the pizza is ready, it is delivered in its own individual box with a disposable pizza cutter, napkin and two spices.

The vending machine itself holds enough fresh ingredients for 150 pizzas which are all kept in a sealed and refrigerated compartment.

Nothing is precooked, and no microwaves or water hook ups are used.

The New York Post reported that the man behind the ingenious creation is an immigrant from the Middle East who arrived in the U.S. virtually penniless.

Puzant Khatchadourian then became a successful high-end jeweller who cast pieces for retailers like Movado, Harry Winston and Tiffanys.

The company president is John Kavazanjian, retired CEO of a multinational.

The machines are still in the process of building five machines for market testing.

Mr Khatchadourian has been working on the machines since the early nineties after hearing his son complain about how long it took the local pizza joint to deliver.

He has already spent millions of dollars building prototypes.

The pizza vending machine is only the latest in a long list of inventive machines that are popping up all over the world.

Advice for Renters

Advice for Renters

Advice for Renters, Finding the perfect apartment doesn’t happen by chance. The ability to determine your needs, identify problem areas and ask the right questions will help you make the right choice before you sign the lease. Remember, once you have signed on the dotted line you are typically committed for a year.

Determine your needs

Price range
Price is one the most important considerations. Decide how much you can afford or want to spend. Remember to factor in utility costs, parking and your usual monthly bills. Knowing your price range from the outset will focus your search, saving you time.

Location
It is important that the neighbourhood you choose to live in is well suited to you and your family. Consider the distance from your work place or schools. Do you mind a long commute every day? Is public transportation easily accessible? Is it a high crime area? Is it close to amenities such as grocery stores, doctor offices and the post office?

Type of apartment
Consider the size of your family and the space you require for your furniture and other possessions. Will you be happy in 500 square feet or will you need 1000? Will a one-room bachelor be adequate or do you require a one, two or three bedroom apartment? Typically, the larger the apartment the higher the rent will be.

Features and amenities
Determine what features you need or desire in your future home. Is an en suite or on-site laundry facility important or do you mind going to a Laundromat ? Does the building feature security features such as security patrols, video cameras or a controlled-access public entry? Do you want the convenience of a dishwasher, an on-site gym or pool, a balcony etc.?

Once you have determined your needs, searching for an apartment will be much easier. Click here to search our listings now.

Inspect the apartment
Never rent an apartment sight-unseen. It is essential that you tour the apartment and examine it closely for problems. Areas that warrant inspection include:

The building
What is the state of repair outside and inside? Are common areas kept clean and in good repair? Are the walls in need of paint? If maintenance appears to be lacking it could be a sign of poor building management.

The apartment
Upon entering the apartment take note of general appearance and upkeep. Are the carpets or flooring worn? Are the walls cracked or in need of paint? Is there staining on the roof or walls (an indication of a water leak). Check all light switches and outlets to ensure they are working. Poor general maintenance may also be an indication of poor maintenance in other areas.

Doors and windoes
Are there secure locks, a peephole and deadbolts on all outside doors? Check for drafts around windows, doors, light switches and electric outlets. If you are paying for heating, a drifty apartment could be cold and costly in winter.

The kitchen
Check faucets for water pressure and hot water. Examine the base of the faucet for leaks and look under the sink for signs of water damage. Turn on the stove and oven and check that the refrigerator, dishwasher and any other appliances are in good working order.

The bathroom
Check faucets for water pressure and hot water. Examine the base of the faucet for leaks and look under the sink and around the tub or shower stall for signs of water damage. Press gently on tile. If the tile moves, it could be a sign of water damage in the wall behind the tile. Flush the toilet to ensure it drains properly.

Questions to ask before you sign the lease
If you have found an apartment that fits your needs you should ask the landlord about important details regarding conditions of the lease and building regulations. Remember, the lease is for your protection too. Ensure that any verbal promises are also included in the lease. Get it in writing.
  • How long is the lease? (Typically one year, although shorter periods including month to month are available.)
  • Can I sublet the apartment if my circumstances change before the lease period is over?
  • How much do you require for a deposit?
  • Can I have roommates?
  • Are any utilities included in the cost of rent? What about parking?
  • Is there special building rules regarding quiet times, pets etc.?
  • What is the procedure for obtaining repairs to the apartment? Is emergency maintenance available 24 hours a day?
  • What maintenance (if any) am I responsible for? What changes can I make to the apartment (paint, wallpaper, carpeting, pictures or shelves that attach to the wall)?
  • When is the apartment available?
  • When can I move in?

World's hottest chilli contest leaves two in hospital

World's hottest chilli contest leaves two in hospital
World's hottest chilli contest leaves two in hospital, They won't be eating curry in a hurry! Participants in 'world's hottest chilli-eating contest' left writhing on the floor as two are hospitalised.
A curry house is under fire after its 'world's hottest chilli' competition landed two people in hospital.

Competitors who had entered Edinburgh restaurant Kismot's curry-eating challenge started writhing on the floor in agony, vomiting and fainting.

One customer, Curie Kim - whose first name is pronounced 'curry' - was so unwell after sampling the 'Kismot Killer' dish that she had to be taken by ambulance to hospital twice in a few hours suffering from stomach pains, vomiting and acid indigestion.
Participants had to be over the age of 18 and were required to sign a legal disclaimer prior to taking part in the competition.
Even though two members of the British Red Cross were on hand, they could not cope with the nature of the injuries sustained.

The restaurant's website describes the competition as 'not a contest to see who can eat the most, but a test of endurance against a top secret nuclear strength recipe using some of the world's hottest chillies.'

Today, the Scottish Ambulance Service said it wanted the restaurant to review the way the event was managed.

Paramedics attended the restaurant on Saturday - the busiest day of the week for the ambulance service - at a cost of several hundred pounds.

Curry house owner Abdul Ali admitted that he would have to 'tone down' the contest in future.

Half of the 20 people who took part in the challenge dropped out after witnessing the first ten diners vomiting, collapsing, sweating and panting.

In previous years, the Kismot Killer dish has caused diners to suffer nose bleeds and one elderly man had to be taken to hospital.
Miss Kim, 21, a Korean exchange student at Edinburgh University, came second in the competition, but admitted the accolade 'came with a price'.

She said: 'I've always enjoyed spicy foods and thought this was for a good cause. But it came with a price, I had to be taken to the hospital twice.
'I first went to hospital at around 4pm and the second time was at 9pm.

'It got really bad. I have never endured such pain in my life.'

Mr Ali said he felt the competition had gone well, but that he had overestimated how much heat the competitors could take.

Beverly Jones, from Newington, was crowned curry queen after she managed to finish nine spoonfuls of the chilli-filled dish.

Mike Lavin, from Polwarth, came fifth, but he, too, had to be taken to hospital.

The competition raised hundreds of pounds for the Children’s Hospice Association Scotland charity, Mr Ali said.

But local councillor Gordon Mackenzie branded the event a 'shambles'.

He said: 'The owners owe a debt to the ambulance service, and I hope they'll find some way of making it up to them.'

A spokesman for the Scottish Ambulance Service said: 'We would urge the organisers to review the way in which this event is managed in future in order to avoid another situation where emergency ambulances are required to treat their customers.'

Kismot is well-known in Edinburgh for its bizarre menu creations including marshmallow naan bread, vindaloo ice-cream and chocolate curry.

The 10-city concert series was scheduled to kick off October 7 in Atlantic City, New Jersey and wrap up October 21 in Grand Prairie, Texas.

"Singing is literally my life, it's my hobby, my love, my freedom and now my job," the 23-year-old wrote on her official website Tuesday. "I have absolutely no choice but to recuperate properly and fully, or I risk damaging my voice forever." Adele cancels tour - again,

The multiplatinum songstress hopes fans will understand the difficult position she's been put in.

During an interview with SlashFilm to promote forthcoming film Big Year, Wilson revealed that Hansel suffers a similar fate to Tom Cruise in Vanilla Sky which seriously hampers his modelling career.

Back in January, Stiller announced he and Zoolander screenwriter Justin Theroux had finished their script, which will pick up with the dim-witted models 10 years after the 2001 film took place. Owen Wilson teases Zoolander 2 plot,

"Most of it is set in Europe," said Stiller. "I don't want to give away too much, but it's basically Derek and Hansel 10 years later, though the last movie ended on a happy note a lot of things have happened in the meantime."

Noel Gallagher blasts X Factor groups, Noel Gallagher has attacked X Factor and criticised one of the show's judges. In an interview with the Radio Times, the Oasis guitarist claimed the ITV reality show had "nothing to do with music".

"If somebody is dangling this carrot of 'fame and fortune' in front of a check-out girl from Barnsley who can sing like Britney Spears then they're going to go for it," the 41-year-old said.

"But it seems to bring on instant mental illness. You're going in at the top, with a number one that sells 750,000 or whatever and you've got someone like Dannii Minogue telling you you're really talented - and if there's one person in the room who wouldn't know talent if it kicked them in the a**e it's Dannii Minogue. Noel Gallagher blasts X Factor groups,

Gallagher claimed that the lifespan of an X-Factor contestant is limited, telling those on the show they would end up "trying to sustain your profile by going on celebrity shows."

"Instead of instant fame and celebrity and all your ex-boyfriends and girlfriends coming out of the cupboard and your family being ripped apart, the prize ought to be, 'I'll introduce you to someone who might introduce you to someone who might, if you're very lucky, know a producer who'd record one of your songs'. "That's the only way to make any money," he added.

Starbucks jobs donation program

Starbucks jobs donation program
Starbucks jobs donation program, Starbucks hopes customers will be willing to pay at least $5 more when they stop in for their morning cup of Joe.
Starting Nov. 1, Starbucks will begin collecting donations of $5 or more from customers to stimulate U.S. job growth through its "Jobs for USA" program. The Seattle-based coffee chain is collaborating with the Opportunity Finance Network, a nonprofit that works with nearly 200 community development financial institutions to provide loans to small businesses and community groups. Starbucks says 100 percent of the donations will go toward loans for firms and organizations that can add jobs or stem job losses.

Starbucks, which pioneered how Americans drink coffee, declined to estimate how much money it plans to raise, but millions of people visit its nearly 7,000 company-owned U.S. stores each day. Customers who give will get a red, white and blue wristband that says "Indivisible."

"This is about using Starbuck's scale for good," said Howard Schultz, Starbucks Corp.'s CEO.

The program is the latest effort by Schultz to address the nation's economic woes. In August, he sent more than 200,000 Starbucks employees a memo urging them to do what they can to help business thrive. Then, he asked fellow CEOs to stop contributing to political campaigns until the nation's leaders reached a long-term economic solution. After that, he hosted a national telephone forum, bought full-page ads in two major newspapers and started a website, Upwardspiral2011.org. Starbucks jobs donation program,

Schultz said he feels personal responsibility to do something to stimulate the U.S. economy. Starbucks is hiring about 200 people a day in the U.S. as part of its efforts to remodel thousands of stores and add about 200 more locations in the next year. But Schultz said he wanted to do more.

Starbucks is covering the operational costs to get loans out through the program, which will run indefinitely. Its charitable arm, The Starbucks Foundation, is giving $5 million to get the program started, with the hope that funds will be invested in communities within a month of a donation being made.

Opportunity Finance Network works with 180 financial institutions -- banks, credit, unions, loan funds and venture capital funds -- that give loans in low-income communities that don't have easy access to credit. The organization, created 27 years ago, has invested $23.2 billion and generated nearly 300,000 jobs through 2009.

Loans through the network have supported everything from charter schools to grocery stores nationwide. The organization found that, even during the recession, more than 98 percent of the money loaned out has been repaid, which is in line with traditional lenders. Starbucks jobs donation program,

Through the program, businesses will apply to financial institutions, which along with the Opportunity Finance Network will assess their potential for adding jobs. Preference will be given to applicants who can add jobs within six months. An outside organization will audit the program within a year.

"We want to match up every person who has $5 to share with every person who can't spare $5," said Mark Pinsky, CEO of Opportunity Finance Network.

The effort has the potential to be successful, say some experts. Community institutions succeed, they say, because they understand the needs in the areas they serve.

"I think it's a really worthy effort," said Mark Zandi, chief economist at Moody's Analytics. "In theory, this is a great idea and should have impact."

America's best casual restaurant chains, Choosing your favorite casual-dining chain restaurant is serious business. The options are plentiful and there's much to consider from food quality to value for money. Endless choice, super-sized portions, and friendly faces can be very persuasive. It's no big surprise then that The Cheesecake Factory is the nation's favorite casual-dining restaurant according to an annual survey conducted by Market Force Information, a customer experience management firm.

This is the second consecutive year that the popular chain, known for its extensive menu and cheesecake options, has landed in the survey's top spot. With a selection of more than 200 items, including 50 dessert options, and plates so generous almost everyone leaves with a doggie bag, The Cheesecake Factory ranked a clear first earning 7.3% of the vote share, more than double the 3.2% scored by runner-up Texas Roadhouse. Olive Garden came in at No. 3 spot with 2.8% of votes. Americas favorite casual restaurant chains,

More than 4,500 consumers from the firm's 300,000 strong stable of independent mystery shoppers voted for their favorite chain from a list of 51 casual-dining restaurants in the August survey. Votes were weighted against the number of restaurant locations per chain to account for the fact that certain brands are less prevalent than others. "A respondent's ability to select a certain restaurant depends on whether there's even an outlet in their area" said Market Force's Senior Vice President of Customer Knowledge, Cheryl Flink. "If they haven't been, they can't make a decision on how much they like that chain."

To understand why a certain brand fared better than another, respondents rated them by the following attributes: quality of food, taste of food, speed of service, friendly service, cleanliness, overall value, atmosphere, child-friendliness, healthy choices, and green/sustainable practices.

When patronizing casual-dining restaurants, which fall in between fine-dining eateries and fast food joints, the taste and quality food is most important to the diner, according to restaurant and food industry consultant, Bob Sandelman. Notably, the top 3 favorites chains all scored very well in these categories. "Eating out is a considered purchase, often a special occasion, so people need to make sure the food is going to be worth it" said Sandelman. America's best casual restaurant chains, cheesecake factory,

Americas favorite casual restaurant chains: But good food isn't always enough; the menu needs to be innovative too. "A lot of consumers tire of restaurants when those chains fail to keep up with changing consumer preferences" explained Sharon Zackfia, a restaurant analyst at William Blair & Company. By revising its menu and adding new dishes and concepts every six months, the Cheesecake Factory is a prime example of a chain that innovates to keep consumers coming back. "There are no inherent limitations in it's concept" said Zackfia, "they have to have cheesecake, but otherwise they can go anywhere with their food."

Service is second most important in the mind of the diner, but it's also inextricably linked to the food. According to Flink, "people are tolerant about speed of service if the food is very, very good. If they've waited 10 minutes more than they think they should have, and the food is bad, you've got a double whammy: bad food, bad service — no one's happy."

Then there's atmosphere. Casual-dining eateries are popular choices for celebrations, so a lively environment makes all the difference between a mediocre meal and a great one. Decked out with jukeboxes, Wild West accoutrements and even line dancers, it's no surprise that Texas Roadhouse was an extremely high-scorer in this category.

Though with an entirely different feel, Italian-American chain Olive Garden also wooed diners with its great atmosphere. According to Zackfia, the chain's unique strength lies in creating a widely appealing experience. "It's accessible to everybody" she said, "white collar, blue collar, senior citizens, teenagers on date."

Value however, didn't appear to have much impact on how respondents voted. None of the top 3 favorite eateries featured among the top scorers for overall value.

Value is often about lots and lots of food for few dollars" said Flink. Logically, Golden Corral (which holds the No. 11 spot), a reasonably priced, all-you-can-eat buffet restaurant was the highest scorer in this category. But quantity says nothing about quality. Respondents were decidedly less enthusiastic about the taste and quality of Golden Corral's seemingly boundless offerings.

Apple Let's Talk iPhone5 Event

Apple Let's Talk iPhone5 Event
Apple Let's Talk iPhone5 Event, Apple’s “Let’s Talk iPhone” event will take place in Cupertino, California this morning, where new CEO Tim Cook is expected to present the much-hyped iPhone 5. Apple has been vague about what the event will entail, and any new products consumers might expect to be presented today, but that hasn’t stopped the rumor mills from churning.
That Apple will launch its iPhone 5 today is an almost certainty in the minds of most Apple enthusiasts, with product shipments and orders for new parts hinting at a new phone over the last few months. However, there is still no confirmation that Apple will release an iPhone 5 — in the past, Apple modified the iPhone 3 to get the iPhone 3GS. Apple could make a similar move this time around, modifying the current iPhone 4 to get an iPhone 4GS rather than an iPhone 5.

Also, there has been a lot of talk about a cheaper iPhone that can compete in the lower-end smartphone market. Again, no rumors have been confirmed by Apple, but it might be that it’s new product release today will simply be a pared-down version of the iPhone 4.

Most of the other rumors swirling around today’s event are about the features of the new iPhone 5. Some say it will have a teardrop shape like the MacBook Air, others that it will have a larger screen, a voice-command feature, 64GB of storage, an 8 megapixel camera, a touch-sensitive home button, and world-phone capabilities.

Some rumors have Sprint being named the exclusive carrier of the iPhone 5, while others say it will be announced that T-Mobile will begin offering an iPhone for the first time, though T-Mobile representatives have denied such a claim. Most expect that, if an iPhone 5 is released today, existing partners AT&T and Verizon Wireless will offer it.

Mule Deer Attack

Mule Deer Attack
Mule Deer Attack, A local man and woman are recovering from a deer attack near Preston. According to a news release issued by Idaho Fish and Game, Sue Panter was walking near her home in Whitney Friday morning when she saw two deer cross her path about 100 yards ahead.
The buck at first walked parallel to Whitney but then he began to close the distance. Panter started to yell and even threw gravel to discourage the attack. But the deer knocked Panter to the ground and started raking her body with his antlers.

Panter tried to play dead but the deer continued to gore her legs. Now feeling she had to fight back Panter grabbed the deer antlers and fought to keep the deer's head away from her own head. Mule Deer Attack,

Around that time Michael Vaughan and his 17-year-old daughter Alexis were driving down the road when Alexis saw the attack. She jumped out of the SUV and started punching the deer. Michael joined in the fray and grabbed the deer by the antlers. Freed from the attack, Panter got into the SUV.

Mule Deer Attack, The deer had now turned its attention to Michael. At the urging of her father, Alexis grabbed a hammer from the vehicle and started striking the deer. Finally the deer stepped back and ran off.

Michael Vaughan and Sue Panter were treated for puncture wounds, scratches, and bruises in Preston and released the same day.

Sue's husband, Scott Panter, said his wife still trying to come to understand what happened.

“She has a difficult time even talking about it,” Panter said. “We are all in shock and cannot believe this happened.”

Panter added, "I am so grateful for the Vaughans. I don’t know how I am going to repay them.”

Michael Vaughan said that he was glad that he and his daughter were at the right place at the right time. “If we hadn’t come up on [Panter] when we did, it could have been so much worse. I don’t think she would have made it.”

Blake Phillips, Regional Conservation Officer for Fish and Game’s southeast region, says that it is not known for certain why this mule deer buck attacked Panter, however behavior like this is typical of deer which have been hand-raised or “tamed” by people. Mule Deer Attack,

Bear follows dog attacks

Bear follows dog attacks
Bear follows dog attacks, A couple in Pennsylvania were attacked by a bear right in their home. Officials say the animal followed the couple’s dog from the woods into their house and attacked them. The injuries to the two are not considered life threatening though it is feared that the bear may be rabid. The Pennsylvania Game Commission said the 10-year-old son of the couple who was in the house at the time that the incident happened was not attacked by the animal. Rich Meyer suffered back injuries while his wife Angie had a leg injury following the attack.

Rich’s mother witnessed the attack. She told reporters that, “He (Rich) was the worst, of course, but she tried to help him when she came downstairs. Then the bear turned on her. I guess (it) got her in the lower extremities, either in the leg or a thigh.” Bear follows dog attacks,

The couple were taken to the Harrisburg Hospital where a spokesperson say they were treated and discharged shortly. The Game Commission of the state says there has not been a fatal bear attack in the state for a very long time. The suspected bear is currently being hunted and the officials have set up traps to help capture it and relocate it to a safer place. Bear follows dog attacks,

'Wonder Years' on NetflixEntertainment

'Wonder Years' on Netflix
'Wonder Years' on Netflix, Vulture, First “Arrested Development” announced its likely return. Now, in yet another gift from the TV reincarnation gods, Netflix has started streaming every episode of “The Wonder Years.”Vulture reports — and Netflix clearly verifies — that all 115 episodes of the show that made us nostalgic for the 1960s, even if we were not alive during that decade, are now available via streaming. This is notable because: A) “The Wonder Years” has never been released on DVD; B) fans of “The Wonder Years” have been clamoring to watch it in an on-demand format for years; and C) we kind of missed Kirk McCray.

It may be overwhelming to know that this many installments of nostalgia-infused comedy peppered with the sound of Daniel Stern’s narration are suddenly now available. 'Wonder Years' on Netflix, wonder years netflix, The Wonder Years, The Wonder Years 115 episodes,

How about with the five episodes most likely to make you sob, as listed below. Because, let’s face it, even though we all enjoyed Becky Slater’s mean-girl antics, Delores’s gum-chewing idiosyncracies and that special way Wayne said the word “butthead,” many of us watched “The Wonder Years” knowing full well that the final, sappy five minutes would often turn us into blubbering fools because . . . sniff . . . just look at how much Kevin Arnold loves Winnie Cooper. I mean . . . sob . . . it’s just so . . . (embarrassingly loud bawling) sweet.

“Birthday Boy”
This Season Two episode — in which Paul (Josh Saviano) and Kevin (Fred Savage) get into a major fight when Paul plans his bar mitzvah on the same day as Kevin’s 13th birthday — is a classic “Wonder Years” weeper. If you can get through the Simon and Garfunkel montage without tearing up a little, it’s possible you have very dry tear ducts or no soul whatsoever. Start reaching for tissues at the 3:20 mark in the clip below.
“Don’t You Know Anything About Women?”

Season Three was, arguably, the weepiest in “The Wonder Years”run. This episode-closer — which takes place after Kevin has broken the totally worthy heart of Linda Sloan (Maia Brewton) — features a sweeping, overly emotional piece of narration (“All our young lives we search for someone to love,” Stern intones), brilliant use of the song “Unchained Melody” and the sight of a forlorn Kevin and lonely Winnie (Danica McKellar) passing each other unknowingly on the dance floor.

“Good-bye”
In what might be the treacliest (and saddest) “Wonder Years” episode of all time — and one that collected two Emmys for its writing and directing — Kevin’s quietly supportive math teacher Mr. Collins unexpectedly dies. “You don’t need to grade it. It’s an A,” is the Kevin Arnold equivalent of “Oh captain, my captain” from “Dead Poets Society.”

“Night Out”
Another Season Three entry, this one focuses on the anxiety surrounding Kevin and Winnie’s first kiss, an event whose innocence seems all the more poignant in these tawdry, “Jersey Shore” times. Setting the moment to the obscure but lovely Elton John song “Friends” elevates it into “The Wonder Years” Tear-Jerker Hall of Fame.

“The House That Jack Built”
Call it the first David Schwimmer episode. Or call it the episode in which Jack Arnold fights with his daughter and highlights why generational differences are so painful. When Dan Lauria screams, “I haven’t changed,” it’s as if he’s speaking on behalf of the entire so-called Silent Generation. And when Kevin catches his parents in a private hug, one that looks like an expression of comfort during defeat, it’s the older members of the Arnold family who may suddenly make you cry this time. Loved Ones Ashes Ammunition

Loved Ones Ashes Ammunition
Loved Ones Ashes Ammunition, An Alabama company has come up with a way for avid hunters to go out with a bang when they die. The cremated ashes of loved ones can now be loaded into shotgun shells and rifle and pistol cartridges.Holy Smoke LLC, created by state conservation officers Thad Holmes and Clem Parnell, launched in July and recently shipped its first two orders, according to The Montgomery Advertiser.

“This isn’t a joke. It’s a job that we take very seriously,” Parnell told the paper. “This is a reverent business. We take the utmost care in what we do and show the greatest respect for the remains.”

One pound of ash can be loaded into 250 shotgun shells for $850. The company also does pistol and rifle rounds. The process takes about 48 hours after the company receives the ashes. Any remaining ashes are shipped back to the customer with the ammo.

“You can take your loved one on one last hunting trip or one last trip to the range,” Holmes said. “Some people have been concerned that a small amount of ash will remain in the animal that is shot with the ammunition. But it’s just carbon, and a small amount at that. You don’t have anything to worry about.”

The two men came up with the idea on a hunting trip several years ago when they were discussing how they would want to be buried.

“I would rest in peace knowing the last thing I did was to go screaming at that turkey at 900 feet per second,” Parnell said.

Muslim inmates sue over meals

Muslim inmates sue over meals
Muslim inmates sue over meals, A Muslim death row inmate says the Ohio prison system is denying him meals prepared according to Islamic law while at the same time providing kosher meals to Jewish prisoners, according to a federal lawsuit that alleges a civil rights violation. The state said Monday that it has already removed pork from its menus in response to the lawsuit brought by condemned inmate Abdul Awkal, who argues the prison system's failure to provide halal meals is a restraint on his religious freedoms.

Awkal, joined by a second inmate not on death row, says the vegetarian and non-pork options offered by the Department of Rehabilitation and Correction aren't good enough. The inmates say food must be prepared in specific fashion, such as ensuring that an animal is butchered by slitting its throat and draining its blood, to conform to Islamic beliefs.

"The issue of eating Halal meals is especially important to me because I face a death sentence," Awkal said in a filing in federal court earlier this year. "It is important to me that I follow the requirements of my faith as I approach death."

The state's recent decision to drop pork from all meals accommodates religious preferences without jeopardizing security, said Carlo LoParo, spokesman for the state corrections department. It "eliminates any doubt that Muslims or any inmate who has a specific prohibition against pork products receives pork inadvertently or otherwise," he said. Muslim inmates sue over meals, muslim inmates sue meal preparation

"It's a concession that we can make that doesn't compromise other aspects of our operation," he said.

But Monday's announcement doesn't solve that meat isn't slaughtered in the appropriate way for Muslim inmates who adhere to religious tradition, said David Singleton, executive director of the Ohio Justice and Policy Center, which brought the lawsuit on Awkal's behalf. He said the lawsuit will continue.

A judge has given lawyers and inmates for the state until next month to finish filing documents bolstering their arguments, ahead of an expected January trial. Muslim inmates sue over meals,

Awkal, 52, is scheduled to die in June for killing his estranged wife, Latife Awkal, and brother-in-law Mahmoud Abdul-Aziz in 1992, in a room in Cuyahoga County Domestic Relations Court.

Joining Awkal in the lawsuit is Cornelius Causey, 35, serving 15 years to life for murder and aggravated robbery convictions out of Hamilton County. muslim inmates sue meal preparation, Ohio jewish prisoners kosher meals,

Ohio argues that it provides both non-pork and vegetarian meals to Muslims and says the courts have sided with this practice. The state also says that providing halal meals could hurt Ohio financially, given the current budget situation.

"The complete restructuring of ODRC's food service administration and preparation, at a cost of millions to the State of Ohio during fiscal crisis, is at stake," Ryan Dolan, an assistant attorney general, argued in a court filing.

Ohio included in its response to the lawsuit a document from a Muslim who does regular spiritual counseling of Muslim inmates.

While Imam Sunni-Ali Islam said he thought it was problematic that Ohio provided kosher but not halal meals, he said he doesn't think it rises to the level of religious discrimination.

The state's prison guidelines for Jewish prisoners say, "The Department will accommodate kosher dietary restrictions to recognized Jewish inmates." Kosher guidelines also address proper ways to slaughter animals and prepare meat.
