Katie Holmes turned down dark night scheduling conflicts

Katie Holmes turned down dark night scheduling conflicts. Maggie Gyllenhaal to Replace Katie Holmes in The Dark Knight.

A while back there were rumours that Jake Gyllenhaal had been cast as Two-Face in Christopher Nolan’s next Batman movie, The Dark Knight. At the time it seemed hard to believe since we already knew Heath Ledger was The Joker, and would anyone really want to subject their film to the inevitable Brokeback Mountain references? Well now we definitely know it wasn’t true, obviously, since Aaron Eckhart landed the role, however, in an interesting twist it appears that Jake’s sister Maggie will appear in the film instead.

Maggie Gyllenhaal will reportedly play Rachel Dawes, district attorney, love interest and childhood friend of Bruce Wayne. You may recall that Katie Holmes had played this role in Batman Begins, but turned down an offer to return for the sequel due to “scheduling conflicts”. And fanboys across the world rejoiced since they had all picked on her as being the only weak part of the first film! Well, I can say with some confidence that Gyllenhaal will act circles around Holmes’ performance. Here’s the thing: is this cast starting to get a little too heavy with A-list talent? Is such a thing even possible? We’ll find out sometime in 2008.
